Derived from Japanese legend, Ukon has many different positive connotations in Japanese legend. Ukon was a poetess from the mid-Heian period, in the 10th century. She became one of the thirty-six immortals of poetry. Later on in the 16th century, Takayama Ukon (a Samurai warrior) fought against anti-religious sentiment for which he was awarded a sainthood for in 2017.
We really enjoyed reading of the ‘Tachibana No Ukon’ which refers to the mandarin tree that was symbolically planted on the right hand side of the Imperial Palace in Kyoto. On the left hand side is a Cherry Blossom Tree known as the ‘Sakura No Sakon’. Together they balance each other and are said to replace the Samurai guards who used to stand on duty there to protect the Emperor. The guards were deemed unnecessary during the times of peace.
The UKON knife sets follow the same exceptional standards that are expected from the classic Global name. Constructed from the best Cromova 18 Stainless Steel, this collection features thicker blades to enhance performance. UKON knives are subject to even more precise grinding and finishing work, making them 10 percent sharper out of the box. The knives offer perfect balance and are designed with an ambidextrous thumb rest that sits closer to the blade for excellent control and cutting efficiency. The underside of the handle features GLOBAL's trademark indentations, making UKON knives fantastically comfortable and easy to hold.
